CVMM 1/28/09
Thanks to everyone who attended the January 28th CVMM meeting! This week’s meeting was sponsored by Carrollton Mortgage and had 55 people in attendance. The group was reminded up the upcoming AMGEN Tour of California coming through Modesto on February 17th. This is a great opportunity to get involved in our community and show support for the event. Volunteer training is scheduled for Wednesday, February 4th at 7:00 p.m. at the Modesto Centre Plaza. Rob Ellett of PMZ introduced guest speaker, Joy Madison, Modesto Chamber of Commerce CEO and President. Madison gave an informative overview of the Chamber functions and mission. Below are notes from her presentation:
Modesto Chamber of Commerce Mission Statement: The mission of the Chamber is to promote the region’s economic strengths and vitality; identify and promote services that are valuable to our members, advocate for public policy that is advantageous to the business community; and fully participate and partner in activities to improve the quality of life.
Creating Business Relationships, Advocacy and Education
Business Relationships
- Coffee Hours are held in member businesses on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:30 a.m. with an average of 50 to 75 in attendance. Coffee hours are free to attend.
- Evening mixers are held in member businesses on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. with approximately 200 in attendance each month. Mixers are free to attend.
- The Modesto Chamber of Commerce holds 4 annual President’s Club mixers
- The Annual Dinner and Member Choice Awards Event is scheduled for February 6th, 2009
Advocacy
- The Modesto Chamber of Commerce works to address local, statewide and federal issues including healthcare, transportation, quality of life, housing, utitlity costs, air quality and political candidate issues.
- Upcoming Candidate Workshops – “Ready to Run” is scheduled for February 26th and “Nuts & Bolts” is scheduled for July 11th
Education
- Visit the Modesto Chamber of Commerce online for information about upcoming educational opportunities
- Business Education from the Modesto Chamber of Commerce includes leadership training and the Chamber University courses including how to operate in a down market, customer service, technology and power hour seminars for information on financing your business, business bootcamps, etc. Power Hour classes are $25 per session and includes lunch.
