CVMM 1/20/2010
Thank you to everyone who attended today's Modesto Marketing Meeting for Real Estate. Your attendance and support helps us to create an effective real estate network for our area.
We had 75 agents and affiliates in attendance today and it was a powerful meeting that not many will forget. Speaker, Birgit Fladager, Stanislaus County District Attorney spoke about the new Gang Injunction Program.
There are 51 documented separate gangs in our area. The county has documented 4750 gang members but their guess is more like 7000 total. They are actively involved in drugs, property and violent crime. All issues that have been growing in our county.
A new approach:
The gang injunction was actually approved by the state over 20 years ago and some counties have put it into practice with much success. The gang injunction is a civil lawsuit/restraining order against a gang. Because it is a civil lawsuit the gang members are not provided with a public defender. If they want legal representation they have to pay for it. This injunction binds all members of a gang and became a permanent injunction in September of 2009. There are 14 rules in the injunction and we will be receiving a copy of these from the District Attorney's office so that we can post them in the near future.
Please join us next Wednesday for offline networking and to hear from guest speaker, Allen Short the General Manager for Modesto Irrigation District. As MID General Manager, Mr. Short is involved in water and electric issues at the federal, state and regional level. Short leads an organization that provides irrigation water for 59,000 acres; electricity for more than 110,000 retail accounts and treated drinking water to the City of Modesto.
The meeting will begin with networking from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m and will be hosted by Carrollton Mortgage. All Realtors® are welcome and please remember to bring a friend.
We look forward to seeing you there. Have a safe and productive week.
